History of Asima Name Meaning

Asima is a Western Semitic goddess of destiny associated with the Akkadian goddess Shamti (“Destiny”), who is a goddess in her own right but also bears the titles of other deities, such as Damkina and Ishtar. For example, Damkina’s name is banat shimti (creator of fate). Depending on the context, Ashima’s name can be translated as “noun, part, or batch.” It has the same roots as the Arabic kismet and the Turkish kismet. Asima is one of the many deities that are worshiped in various cities in Samaria, and two kings in the Hebrew Bible mention this name specifically.

Julian Obermann (Julian Obermann) puts forward the close relationship between the concept of “name” and “destiny or purpose” from the origin of the Western Semitic people and cites several examples in the Ugaritic text.
